YKI exam guide
The YKI reading test
The reading section checks whether you can understand the everyday Finnish texts you meet in real life — notices, messages, news and instructions. Here is the format and how to get ready for it.
What the reading section looks like
- Several short Finnish texts: notices, emails, articles and instructions.
- Multiple-choice and short-answer questions on what you read.
- Tests skimming for the main idea and scanning for specific details.
How to prepare
- Read the questions first, then scan the text for the answer.
- Don’t panic at unknown words — meaning usually comes from context.
- Build high-frequency vocabulary so common words never slow you down.
